Marry, Make-Out & Muzzle… it’s a game humor me!

Cassie over at Hi! Sugarplum Blog posted her version of a game… and it made me laugh…. so I am carrying it on over here at this little Blog too!  Apparently, this is a twist on a Twitter Game (new to me had no idea) except it is a kinder gentler version!  Let’s do this!  Play along with me!
It’s easy peasy.  Just name the celebrity you would marry, the celebrity you’d make out with and the celebrity that basically makes your skin crawl.  So funny!

Here we go:

Marry Me!  John Krasinski from the Office

I know he may not be the best looking actor out there… but I would not want to marry the best looking.  I just love him!  He seems like a really real, funny and cool guy.  He’s also super tall and that never hurts!

Make-Out!  Bradley Cooper

I’m pretty sure I don’t need to explain this choice.  I will say for the record though that I have loved him since his days on the show Alias – back when no one knew who he was!

Muzzle!  The Entire Cast of Jersey Shore… especially Snooki

Ugh… disgusting human beings is all I can say.  Is anyone else mystified as to how it is possible that these idiots are now considered famous and get paid a lot of money??  I cringe every time these people show up on TV or in interviews.  I try to avert my eyes and change the channel as quickly as possible.

Well… that was fun!
Who do you want to Marry, Make-Out & Muzzle?

Shabby–Yes! Chic–Big Yes!!

I have no idea how we have lucked in to so many absolutely perfect sunny days here in Big D, but I will take it!!  I am super blessed to be sitting here in my Dining Room with the windows open enjoying a perfect breeze while writing this post.  Little B is also hanging out and entertaining himself with his Ben 10 action figures (this is not the norm around here) – hooray!
Want to see my second project from Mister B’s school Silent Auction Fundraiser?  Here it is after.

I know I say this often… but… I love the way this piece turned out!!  It was not too hard to do either which is always a huge plus.  Here is how it started.

Not awful to begin with right?  It was actually even better than it looks in these pics to begin with.  But in my world everything could use a little improving.  Even me, but that is a subject for another type of Blog!
As usual, I started this project by giving it a light sanding – because I actually only wanted to do a color wash with a glaze over it and let some of this beautiful dark stain show through.  I followed this with a really thorough washing with soap and water.  Here are the products I used to get started.

All I needed was a quart of semi-gloss paint in Behr’s Creamy White and a quart of Behr’s Faux Glaze to mix in with the paint.  I also decided to try a technique I had read about on another Blog (wish I could remember which one it was and I would totally give credit).  That technique was to rub Petroleum Jelly in spots all over the piece prior to any painting.  I did this in spots where I thought it would naturally wear over time and in a few random spots.  Then I used a foam brush (cheap and effective) and started rubbing on my Creamy White Glaze in fairly light coats.  I wanted the finish to look built up in layers giving it that sort of worn finish.

This was after several coats.  If you look at the top, you can kind of see where it looks like the paint is almost bubbling up on those spots where you can see a little dark showing through.  That is where I put the Petroleum Jelly.  I did a total of four coats of the paint mixed with glaze while the Petroleum Jelly was still on there.  I then took a white wash cloth and wiped off the spots where I put the Petroleum Jelly and the top coats came right off exposing the original finish!  It worked like a charm!!  I then went ahead and did a final coat of the paint with glaze because I decided my dark spots were a little too dark for me.  I loved it!  I then followed the advice of Kate on her Centsational Girl Blog and used Briwax for my final protective coat.  It was kind of expensive, but I was super happy with using that on this piece.  I have never used a Wax for a topcoat before but I will for sure do it again.
My final touch was knobs!  I found a pack of four crystal looking knobs at HomeGoods for $8.99!  Can’t beat that!  So I bought two and I was finished!  Here are all the after pics.

You see my model trying to sneak in to the shot?  I didn’t have any money left to pay his exorbitant fees so I gave him the boot.
Be right back

I was sad to let this beauty go… oh well… all for a good cause.  In the auction, I believe this piece went for $85.  A totally crazy bargain in my eyes!!
This piece did help me in a way.  Now I know that I want a piece of furniture with this finish on it in my Foyer (that is where this is).  I think I would rather have a demi Lune (half moon) table here though as it would take up less space.  I would also like the bottom half of the table open to give the illusion of more space here!  Now I am on the hunt for one of those!!  Craigslist here I come!

Flip Flop…. bathrooms

Let’s talk about bathrooms…. fun stuff right?  We did a lot of changing of bathrooms in this place!  If you read my post about the Kitchen & Laundry in this Flip Flop, then you know we actually removed a bathroom.  Crazy I know… but it was bad.  It was so tiny and useless… and it made for an awkward and very small laundry room.  Plus there was no pantry in this place and taking out that bath made room for a mudroom and pantry space.  Shame on me for not having any good before pics of this bath!
Let’s move on to the Master Bath!  Here is one shot.
Master Bath Tub
This used to be this.

We changed this bath dramatically.  This is far too hard to just explain without leaving you scratching your head…. so…. Check out my drawing (I am totally high-tech around here!!).

Maybe when I go to Design School I can learn how to do this all Techy-like?!
This is one of my favorite parts of renovating an older home.  I love to walk in and envision what a space could really be!  I love changing something to the point where people say “Wow, I never would have thought of doing that”.  Our first order of bizness in this bath was to close off the Hallway Door!  Ugh… nobody wants their Master Bath sanctuary to be open the the public.  As you can see in the drawings we had to take out some walls and make it into one space instead of several.  We also could not resist putting in a separate pimped-out double shower – it was a shower bath combo before!  Wish I had one in my house.  Check out the rest of the before and after pics!
Master Bath Shower Before
Ugh… sorry for the blurry pics.  My old camera stunk!
Master Double Shower
Can you believe this used to be a double vanity and door to a Hallway?
Master Bath Vanity
Those are not Hollywood Lights you see!  This pic makes it hard to see them but they are these beautiful square lights with obscure glass shades.  We chose to buy this vanity from Overstock (my go-to for bath vanities at good prices!).  it came with a gorgeous white quartz top and we added the glass and subway tile backsplash (another of my go-to design choices for a Flip).  As per our usual as well, we went with a soothing sage green in here.
Thanks to the Master Bath we had another problem now! We got rid of a bathroom!!  Yikes!  Well… we had to think really hard on this one.  We had to walk around the house and really look at all of our space to figure out where we could possibly steal some.  And it came from here.
Powder Bath Closet Before
This my friends is a very large hall closet!  We also had to steal a bit of hallway space to the left of this closet as well.  Here is how it looked after.
Powder Room
It was really difficult to get a picture of this room because as Powder Rooms usually go it was not super spacious.  The toilet is to the right of this sink.  I loved this whole sink mirror all-in-one.  Got that on Overstock too!
The third bath was a much more simple reno.  Just cosmetics.  Here it is before and after.
Jack'n'Jill Bath Before
Jack n Jill Bath Vanities
We gutted this bath!  We had another one of our stand-by faves build the cabinets in here too!  Remember Twin Oaks Custom Cabinetry?  We love them!  The tile floors in here were super cool too!
Wish I had pictures that could truly do these rooms some justice.  Oh well, I waited to long to buy my Nikon SLR!

Crazy for Color Tuesdays!

Crazy for COLOR Tuesdays!

Before I start this post, I wanted to mention a giveaway happening over at Blue Cricket Design! It is for a $100 Lowes GC… what good DIYer couldn’t use an extra $100?? Bet you could think of lots of creative ways to use an extra $100! Go check it out here.

Now, what I’d like to address today is Indigo!  Or Dignified Blue according to Sherwin Williams.  To do so, I would like to revisit my post from last Friday.
I know it has only been days since I posted about my thrifty find of a Blue Chest.  In case you missed that piece, here it is.

DSC_0018-001

Well, what brought up visiting this piece again was a Blog Post that hit my In Box today from Kate at Centsational Girl.  In yesterday’s post she had some big news to share.  She got her very own Blog Spot writing for Better Homes and Gardens website three times a week!  I would say that is a pretty big coup – Congrats to her!  I followed her link on over to her new blog Centsational Style.  Her post today is all about Indigo!  Or as I like to call it Dignified Blue.  The reason I bring this up today on

Crazy for COLOR Tuesdays!

is because in my last post about this piece of furniture I was unsure of my color choice because of the lack of bids.  Well I feel some redemption from my doubts after reading this post!!  Here is what Kate had to say in her post:

“If you’ve popped your head into local retailers or opened the latest catalogs, there’s a color that’s getting a lot of attention this season and that color is indigo. This inky blue is appearing everywhere from textiles to accessories and one thing is true, while some might consider it the color of the moment, the combination of deep blue and crisp white has always been timeless. Whether it’s the paint on the walls, or the furnishings in your spaces, indigo is one color to choose to create a moody yet sophisticated feeling in your home.”

Go check out the rest of her awesome article on her new Blog.  Check out some pics of Indigo, Dignified Blue or whatever you’d like to call it!

Curbside Table

Good Monday Morning!!
Kelly and I went over to a mutual friends house because we were throwing a wedding shower for our sons' teacher...and I pull up and spot this little table on the curb at a neighbors house! Score!  I start getting excited because I can see it's future! FABULOUS! So I easily load it in the back of my car and proceed to the wedding shower.

Later I start the transformation...sanding this pretty little kitty off! And let me just tell you...it wasn't easy!
After a couple hours of sanding....I was able to lightly rub a dark stain on the top portion of the desk and paint the bottom half with a creamy paint! I ended up putting my new piece in my older son's room. Also check out his golf ball lamp...I picked that up at a store we have here called The Christmas Tree Store for $12.99! We have been saving golf balls from different places we have played and now we FINALLY have a spot for them!!!
I found these knobs at Hobby Lobby~ half of baby!!!

I went back over the table with a light sand paper...just to rough it up more! My favorite look!
